I am passionate in serving adults experiencing life transitions or stressful situations. Music is my co-therapist in helping you find out your own inner strengths and resources. I would like to support you in a transformative journey to find your self and guide you in exploring your own capacity for self-healing.Â
I am a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) with over 20 years of experience. I am also trained in Level 2 - Guided Imagery with Music. I integrate focused imagery experiences in the session using your own active imagination to connect with your unconscious mind. When using Focused Music Imagery (FMI) in sessions, I am more of an active listener. FMI is about bringing awareness to the healing power of the mind-body connection. My focus is on resilience and building inner resources. Â
In Greek Mythology, Apollo was associated with music and healing, often portrayed playing the lyre. The true inspiration for 'Apollo Music Therapy,' though, is my dog. Rescued from the Charlotte Humane Society, Apollo (the dog not the Greek mythology god), had to overcome sickness and learn how to trust people. He is now a joyful and content dog who brings a sense of peace and joy. Apollo is not a certified therapy dog, so he will not join us during the sessions. Â
Apollo's transformative journey is symbolic of what we might experience in music therapy sessions. In our work together we will focus on finding your own strength in making meaningful changes that in turn can guide your day-to-day choices and future development. We may address wellness, coping, self-expression, and self-compassion.Â
I have clinical experience in behavioral health, family-based mental health and early intervention. Also, I am a professor of music therapy at Queens University of Charlotte. You can check out my scholarly profile in Google Scholar.Â
